Result: "Not virus safe" Many free mail services on the internet are not safe. According to a test of the computer magazine "Computerbild" they pass on computer viruses without checking them. Five out of seven tested mail services were given poor marks, the magazine said. None of the providers offered complete security. Even the winners, "Freemail" by Web.de and "MSN-Hotmail", only got the marks "satisfactory" and "sufficient". All other tested services (AOL Germany with "AOL 7.0", Freenet's " "Especially unsuspecting users frequently fall victim to viruses. The installation, configuration and updates of the software are simply too much for them. The protection has to set in before the dangerous files are loaded", says Heiko Rittelmeier, provider of the online services against computer fraud and dialers, dialerhilfe.de and computerbetrug.de, about the current security problems. However, it is in fact easy to protect oneself easily and safely against viruses, unwanted dialers and advertisements in eMails and the internet. Nutzwerk offers an internet safety tool – SaferSurf – that does not need to be updated or maintained. SaferSurf eliminates infected files before they can reach the computer. "We offer all users of free mail services a bonus card for the free use of SaferSurf. Within two months every freemailer should be able to protect their users against viruses and other data rubbish", says René Holzer, CEO of Nutzwerk and inventor of the real-time data filter SaferSurf. |
