Moorhens and Love Letters are not allowed in
Filter technology developed by Nutzwerk protects internet surfers from unwanted messages

Since the end of November the Nutzwerk Informationsgesellschaft mbH has another partner. The CFH, a venture capital subsidiary of Sachsen-LB, takes over 12 percent of the joint stock of Nutzwerk.

The Halle-based development company is currently preparing – together with cooperation partners and users – to put several products on the market. These products are based on their first internet technology that filters data streams for their content.

One of them is SaferSurf which guarantees users a secure online access with protection from unwanted contents: "For example, a university professor can define that students are not allowed to shoot moorhens but can only access the contents for their studies", explains Nutzwerk CEO René Holzer. "Or parents can see to it that their children can't access the internet after 9 pm."

With this Nutzwerk technology undesirable contents like right-wing extremist or pornographic sites can be kept out much more efficient than with blocking lists that will never be up to date due to the ever-changing offers on the internet, says Holzer. The filter recognizes certain keywords in the data stream and keeps back the relevant files.

SaferSurf is currently being tested at the Martin-Luther-Universität as a reference solution. The filter program can be implemented directly at the internet provider without the customers having to install additional software on their computers.

The eMail firewall from Nutzwerk is based on the same system. This server monitors the entire eMail traffic at providers and in company networks by scanning sender address, subject and text for keywords. Unwanted ads and viruses are filtered out before they can enter the mailbox: This way files that contain words like "Loveletter" or "special offer" are deleted before the mail can reach the addressee.
