Lech Valley Today, January 30, 2001 (translated from German) Hackers watch out: DM 10,000 for a TAN
René Holzer, CEO of the internet start-up Nutzwerk from Halle, is very annoyed about a TV report that claims that any person with average computer knowledge could intercept a TAN during transmission and use it for themselves. TAN stands for transaction number. This is a numerical code that can only be used once and is needed for the confirmation of every single transaction during online banking. In their annoyance about this report the Nutzwerk team came up with a clever idea: They offered an award of DM 10,000 (about 5,000 euros) for anybody who would manage to intercept online a TAN and use it to withdraw money from the company account. The question is if in this case the 'hacker' wouldn't rather clear out the company accounts and turn down the award.
After all, the spoilsports of Nutzwerk developed the moorhen blocker. Author: hf
