The internal clock of a Linux server or a work station – adjusted to an atomic clock by a time server in the internet. All computers in the network can be set up to adjust to this time automatically.

The program …

… runs under LINUX and was tested with SuSE 7.0 and 7.2. An important program requirement is the support of netdate and dialog.

Installation:
  • Download the archive timesynchro-1.0.tgz
  • Enter "tar -zxf timesynchro-1.0.tgz" in order to extract the archive
  • The timesynchr directory is created
  • Change to this directory and enter ./install
  • Required programs are detected automatically
  • Requesting paths and file names, standard values are given
  • Copying file to the locations stated
The following files are copied:
  • Data base for time server
  • Data base for receiving information about the country/organisation from the top level domain
  • Configuration script
Both setting the time and editing /etc/crontab require special root rights. Therefore you must have root rights for installation, configuration and calling of the script generated. After installation, the extracted files can be deleted because they are no longer needed.
