How secure are you when you are surfing the internet?

On this page a java object named com.ms.activeX.ActiveXComponent is generated by means of the applet tag. This is a Microsoft specific Java extension that can be called up using any ActiveX control. These can then be controlled via a script. This test was taken from the browser check in the c't computer magazine.

The test generates the file EA.HTA on your desktop. It would be possible to create a file in your Autostart folder and for example format your entire hard disk at the next system start.

This demo only works with Java.

If the message 'EA.HTA created' is displayed on your monitor, please go to the desktop. The file EA.HTA is saved there. Please note: if the message is displayed and the file is saved on your desktop, there is a security gap in your browser that leaves you unprotected. We recommend to use SaferSurf in order to protect your internet access. For help, please click here.

Close the window after the test or refresh the page to repeat the test.

Recommend this test to your friends and relatives.

What the press is saying

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

Pirate software fended off

The new dangerous pirate program did not occur as executable program (as would be expected) but as a library containing the pirate program features.

As the IT information service "getfax" reported on Monday, the internet technology company Nutzwerk managed to find an anti-serum against the programs and to integrate it into their "all around internet protection" SaferSurf within a few minutes. All SaferSurf users were protected against the new attack from the internet as soon as it occured.
