Even in 1995 René Holzer, the founder of Nutzwerk GmbH, realized that the internet was developing into a medium that would revolutionize business concepts. Together with a partner company, he set up the first portal for the building industry on the internet at www.baunet.de in May 1995.
By working with and for the internet Holzer realized that, in order to use the full potential of the internet, the confidence of the users would be essential. However, security and confidence can only be guaranteed if all internet users all over the world automatically get security. Even in 1996 Holzer knew for certain that only access providers would be able to meet this condition. Every internet user has to use a provider to access the internet. If the provider delivers security together with the access, security can be guaranteed permanently.
Holzer's philosophy: "Security programs that the users don't have to install and maintain themselves will be accepted by all users" is still true. According to recent findings not even 5 percent of the internet users use security applications because they are too difficult to install and maintain.
Nutzwerk GmbH was founded together with Ramona Wonneberger in November 1997. The objective of the company was to successfully implement the idea of the content-related data filter. Holzer was responsible for the areas strategy and product development in the company. With her concepts and business models Wonneberger laid the foundations for the financing of the company over several years. In addition, she took care of the entire organization and the image of the company.
In 1997 Holzer introduced the first basic concept for a content-related data filter available through an access provider, though the technical feasibility was not the priority at this stage. The objective was described as follows: "How can security be guaranteed automatically for every user anywhere in the world?"
